Collective Artistry: The 12th Annual Rhinebeck Central School District Art Show, with Artwork by RCSD Students in Grades K-12, Moves to the Starr Library, May 1-31, 2018
The Art teachers from Rhinebeck Central School are pleased to present a group exhibition of works by Rhinebeck Central School District students. This is the 12th year the District show will be held but has a new venue this year. Formerly held at Montgomery Row, the show has outgrown this venue. This year, students from grades K through 12 will present a body of 2-D and 3-D work containing a variety of media used in their academic classes.
The show highlights works of art by students studying with Fawn Johnson (CLS), Jennifer Famiglietti (BMS), and Kathryn Giles and Cynthia Baer (RHS). The goal of the show is to not only to celebrate the expertise students gain as they study within Rhinebeck Central Schools’ arts curriculum but also to remind the public of the value art has in the public school setting.
The exhibit includes both traditional and contemporary styles of work. While the artwork reflects students’ proficiency in using mixed media, pencil, charcoal, pastel, mosaics, and acrylic painting, it also is representative of the themes and interests of the students. Some themes include local life, students’ self-awareness and inner feelings, while others substantiate students’ understanding of balancing the elements and principles of art.
This exhibit provides a glimpse of creative experiences Rhinebeck Central School students in grades K through 12 encounter as they participate in Rhinebeck’s course offerings and learn about visual art through multiple media. At the High School level, students can currently choose from twelve course offerings: Studio Art, Theater Design, Painting, Graphic Design and Photography (C.Baer) and Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics, Print-making, Portfolio and Advanced Art Exploration (K Giles) and Drawing and Design (C. Johnson).
